dive sites

Three main islands

provide us with our ten well loved dive sites, Koh Rong, Koh Rong Samloem (Sanloem, Sanloen, Samloen) and Koh Koun (Koh Kon). In addition one smaller island conveniently named "Small Island" provides us with two more popular sites all within 45 minutes of our center.

corral

Location : Koh Koun (Koh Kon)

10°38'08.3"N 103°18'14.5"E

Named this after the idea that you corral horses, and because this is our Sea Horse site. Corral lies on the North tip of the Koh Kon (Koh Koun) Island and it has a horse shoe shaped Corral that lies as shallow as 3 meters (so perfect for snorkelers) but follow the reef round and you will end up down at 12 meters.

Thanks to the horse shoe shaped corral, the site gets protected from most of the weather. Due to the sheltered conditions, we often get beautiful clear blue water at this site which is perfect for spotting the Sea Horses and the many different types of gorgeous Nudiranchs (including the Blue and Pink Dragons!) that we have at this site. This site does not have as much Reef as our other sites but thanks to that we do get a lot of large Tuna, Giant Golden Travellies, and Sting Rays hiding in the sand. This is also full of Porcupine Fish, Rabbit Fish, Angel Fish, and we have even seen giant rays here before but you will need to look hard for them.

Location : Koh Koun (Koh Kon)

10°38'05.4"N 103°17'51.7"E

We are so lucky here at the Koh Rong Dive center to have the Koh Kon (Koh Koun) island just 20 minutes away by boat. The island is circled 360 degrees by such a vast variation of different coral and coral life that it’s a joy to dive here. We can get as deep as 15 meters when we jump from the boat but most of the dive is spent next to a reef wall at around 8 - 10 meters. We find this is where most of the life is on the reef so you will see more at this depth.

We have a huge amount of Coral life here, we find big schools of Barracuda and Trevallies which are always great to see in such large numbers. Bat Fish, Box fish, Puffer Fish, Sweet Lips, Blue Ringed Angel Fish, Blue Spotted Rays even the occasional Sea Turtle! are among the many things you will see at these sites.

corner bar

Location : Koh Koun (Koh Kon)

10°37'42.1"N 103°17'45.2"E

Corners are always good! A multitude of fish just hanging around where the water flow divides, effortlessly feeding on plankton and smaller fish as they drift by. Maybe you will explore the reef further to the north dropping down to 10 - 14 meters before coming shallower (8 - 10m) where the colours are brighter.

Alternatively you could head south out over the sandy bottom and find a deep spot around 18m. Normally you will finish the

dive near the corner enjoying the shoals of jackfish and fusiliers waiting for their prey. A unique dive site with various opportunities that could be dived several times, in different ways, with different experiences!

m'pai bay

Koh Rong Samloem

A sheltered bay that is home to a small fishing village, this site is ideal for courses and try dives or a place to end your dive on Corner Bar. Sandy areas, a shallow reef at 4 to 5 meters, there is the opportunity to enjoy an easy dive with plenty of chances to see the unusual and enjoy the shoals of various types of fish, sea cucumbers, crabs and shrimps.

kerley gardens

Location : Koh Rong Samloem

10°37'24.6"N 103°18'29.4"E

Quite a special one for us, this site is actually named by our dive center after 2 of our staff that found it and named it. Kerry and Lesley, collectively know as Kerley! Before this site was available to us, this area of M'Pai Bay was really strictly for courses, mostly sand and not that deep. There was a small sunken fishing boat but this was destroyed by boats actually tying on to the wreck. Now dives can begin by exploring the sand looking for rays, the partner gobies that live in a hole with shrimps.

Then explore the reef of hard and soft corals that lays on the seabed with large trevallies, jackfish, snappers and giant puffer fish, descending to 12 or 13 meters. Finally shallower for the safety stop, finding nudibrancs, wart slugs, sea cumbers and more rays.

back door

Location : Koh Rong Samloem

10°37'12.3"N 103°17'17.4"E

Back Door is a large area of huge stones and boulders that have formed some great sites for fish to hide and new coral to form. The boulders look incredible in the water because of the size and life that has made the rocks their home. We also find lots of little swim thoughs and overhangs that are great for getting into and for taking pictures.

We often find little bamboo sharks in this area and again a huge amount of Nudibrancs but the one thing we often find at this site is some big Cobia - they mook like sharks, but they are not! They are docile inquisitive and friendly. Recently we have had a few sightings of turtles and divers have even spent 15 mins diving with them, but they are few and they are still shy, but who knows maybe you will be one of the first to dive with our new friends.

long beach

Location : Koh Rong

10°41'26.8"N 103°15'08.4"E

A REALLY long beach, sometimes referred to as 7K beach (7 Km) or Sok San after the village and resort at the far end. A truly beautiful unspoiled beach with 2 hidden reefs (Long Beach and Khmer Garden) on the sea bed. Ideal for courses and fun dives with shallow sandy areas and a reef extending down to 9 meters with a a good chance of big Cobia at the deepest point. All kinds of life are evident including cuttlefish, nudibrancs, pufferfish even maybe a seahorse.

This is by far one of the best sites in all of Cambodia, not just for the vast size, beauty and life that sits on this coral Reef but also its Location. The moment the boat pulls round the island the 7k beach comes into view you will see why, 7 kilometers of incredible un-spoiled white sand beach. When we dive at this site, we will often stay here for lunch just so people can soak up the sun and the beauty of this incredible beach. The dive site also offers all the best we have in the area, from schools of huge barracuda grey and yellow box fish, huge sweet lips, so many different types of Groupers and we often get lots of cuttle fish

buddha reef

Location : Koh Rong

10°39'41.2"N 103°15'28.0"E

Situated just before Long Beach this dive site is usually done as the second dive on the way home. The boulders visible on the shore descend beneath the ocean, encrusted with colourful hard and soft corals. Stay shallow (6-8 meters) or descend slowly to 14 or even 15 meters where you can explore the sand and hunt for isolated rocks that have formed small distinct micro-communities.

There is a good chance of Barracuda here as well as all the 'usual suspects', jackfish, fusiliers, batfish, angelfish, butterfly fish and more. In some places the reef extends out over the sand, giving you more chances to explore for deeper spots and different species before returning to the main reef wall formed by the submerged shores of the island.
