Corner Bar, First Tree, Last Tree

Underwater-Kohrong-34

These 3 dive sites are all right next to each other on the West hand side of the Koh Kon Island that sits in front of Koh Rong Samlon.

We are so lucky here at the Koh Rong Dive center to have the Koh Kon island just 20mins away by boat. The island is circled 360 degrees by such a vast variation of different coral and coral life that it’s a joy to dive at any of these 3 sites, over and over again.

The 3 sites are each around 150 – 200 meters in length but spread out from the island by around 50 meters. We can get as deep as 16 meters when we jump from the boat but most of the dive is spend next to a reef wall at around 12 – 8 meters we find this is where most of the life is on the reef so you will see more at this depth. It also means that our dives last a little longer than most at around 45mins to 60mins per dive. Thankfully with us having on average around 31 degrees water temp even after 1 hour most divers come up feeling warm.

We have a huge amount of Coral life at these sites, we find big schools of Barracuda and Travallies which is always great to see in such large numbers. Bat Fish, Box fish, Puffer Fish, Sweet Lips, Blue Ringed Angel Fish, Blue Spotted Rays even the occasional Sea Turtle! are among the many things you will see at these sites Chances are you will go to at least one of these sites if you come diving with us and you will see why they are our favorite sites.

The Corral

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Named this after the idea that you corral horses, and this is because this is our Sea Horse site.

‘The Corral’ lies on the North tip of the Koh Kon Island and it has a horse shoe shaped Corral that lies as shallow as 3 meters (so perfect for snorkelers) but follow the reef round and you will end up down at 12. Thanks to the horse shoe corral the site gets protected from most of the weather so we always get beautiful clear blue water at this site which is perfect for spotting the Sea Horses and the many different types of gorgeous Nudi Branches (including the Blue and Pink Dragons!) we have at this site.

This site does not have as much Reef as our other sites but thanks to that we do get a lot of large Tuna, Giant Golden Travellies, and Sting Rays in the muck. This is also full of Porcupine Fish, Rabbit Fish, Angel Fish, and we have even seen giant rays here before but you will need to look hard for them.

Back Door / Boulders

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Back Door is a large area of huge stones and boulders that have formed some great sites for fish to hide and new corral to form. The boulders look incredible in the water because of the size and life that has made the rocks there home. We also find lots of little swim though and over hangs that are great for getting into and for taking pictures.

We often find little bamboo sharks in this area and again a huge amount of Nudi Branches but the one thing we always find at this site is some big Mora Eels! These may look scary when you first see them but once you see the black and gold shimmer on their bodies you begin to see the beauty that the Eel holds.

Recently we have been seeing Dolphins at the end of the dive site and 2 divers have even spent 15 mins diving with them, but they are new and they are still shy, but who knows maybe you will be one of the first to dive with our new friends.

Khmer Garden

Underwater-Kohrong-24

This is by far one of the best sites in all of Cambodia, Not just for the vast size, beauty and life that sits on this coral Reef but also it’s Location. It takes about 35mins to travel round to far side of the island and to the famous 7km beach. Twice now this beach has been voted in the top 10 most beautiful beaches in the world, and the moment the boat pulls round the island the 7k beach comes into view you will see why. 7kilomiters of incredible un-spoilt white sand beach.

We dive at this site and will often stay here for lunch just so people can soak up the sun and the beauty of this incredible beach. The dive site also offers all the best we have in the area, from schools of huge Barracuda Gary and Yellow Box Fish, huge sweet lips, so many different types of Groupers and we often get lots of cuttle fish

Budda Reef

Blue_ringed_angelfish

Budda Reef is the second dive site that we use if we go round to Khmer Garden. Very often with some gentle drift heading south. So we often drop our divers at the start of this site and will pick everyone up again at the far end of the site. I love this dive site due to the huge Rock formations that you can swim around and very often find huge amounts of life underneath including the gorgeous blue ringed angel fish.

Also this is the site where we do come across schools of Cobia (the looks like a shark but is not a shark fish) very cool thing to see if your group makes it to the end of the dive site. Many people don’t make it to the end however as they get held up with all the other life you will see at this mysterious dive site.
